Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on August 23, 2010, in the Middle School Library, called to order by the president. After an executive session, the board acknowledged Pennsylvania Department of Education approval of PlanCon documents Part D, E, F, and K, and authorized filing of Parts G and H, all passing on roll call votes with a director dissenting. The board accepted Tower Engineering's HVAC balancing and commissioning proposal and Construction Engineering Consultants' inspection and testing services, both with the director dissenting. It accepted the resignation of a school director effective August 31, 2010, and approved the superintendent's acceptance into the Pennsylvania Education Policy Fellowship Program.

The board consented to assigning an agreement from N. John Cunzolo Associates to JC/Pierce, LLC, contingent on a letter from a contractor and a reworked payment schedule, but then tabled the motion pending further discussion. It approved the temporary no-charge use of the high school gyms by Our Lady of Sacred Heart School, with the school paying any extra custodial costs. A Liberoni change order for the McCormick Athletic Field sprinkler system passed with the president and three directors in favor and the rest opposing.

On personnel, the board approved extra-duty pay at Brooks Elementary for two employees, family medical leaves for two custodians, and the resignation of an employee. It appointed an employee as Middle School Assistant Principal, approved several long-term substitutes at 174.54 per day, and hired an employee as a Grade 3 teacher at Masters Step 2. The board approved substitutes, fall sports coaches, and winter sports coaches, voting to adjourn at 8:45 p.m.
