Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on September 24, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. All eight directors were present, along with administrators and seven others at the board table, eight audience members, and a Post Gazette reporter.

The board approved a cooperative agreement with the Quaker Valley School District to support a combined boys wrestling team for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2013 seasons, pending Quaker Valley's approval, with wrestling remaining at no additional cost to Moon Area. It approved second readings of revised or adopted policies 105 (Curriculum Development), 108 (Adoption of Textbooks), and 200 (Enrollment of Students), and voted to exclude policy 201 (Admission of Students) from this round of revision.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignation of an employee as NJHS sponsor, approved extra-duty positions at the middle school, and hired remediation facilitators at the high school retroactive to September 17. It accepted the retirement of a cook effective January 14, 2013, approved a childbearing leave for a music teacher beginning about December 5, and hired an employee as a dishwasher/server at Bon Meade Elementary. It accepted the resignations of a grade-2 teacher effective October 1 and a long-term substitute teacher, approved an employee as McCormick's long-term substitute kindergarten teacher with health coverage, approved a talent-show extra-duty position for an employee, hired an employee as a middle-school building-based substitute, and approved three substitutes.

An administrator reported the MAHS marching band would host its first PIMBA competition at Tiger Stadium on September 29, with 12 bands competing. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
