Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met October 8, 2012, under the president, with seven directors present and two absent. After an executive session on personnel, the board approved the minutes from September 17 and 24 and a suite of financial reports, then approved the bills across the General Fund and bond and activities accounts.

Committee reports covered gifted Challenge Program activities, revised senior project requirements, 2011-12 PSSA results, and policy work. The board approved second readings of Policies 105, 108, and 200, pulling 201 for further discussion, and approved the first reading of Policy 620, Fund Balance. It approved the third and final readings of Policies 105, 108, and 200, approved the Challenge Program gifted activity lists, and approved the revised Senior Project Handbook.

Two purchases were tabled for more information: the ActPoint Performance Management System software and up to 35 Tiger Pride banners. The board did approve change orders for the middle school project, plus the 2012-13 bus routes and stops, bus and van drivers, and personnel actions including extra pay for several middle school and elementary duty positions, the acceptance of a resignation, and the hiring of a prorated Grade 2 teacher at Bon Meade Elementary and a long-term substitute. The superintendent reported that the new middle school would serve as a polling location for Districts 7 and 9 on November 6, that the high school symphonic band was selected to perform at the state music educators convention, and noted the district's new GFS Fun Funds partnership and the drama club's November performances. After a board exchange on the baseball field, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
