Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met February 25, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. The superintendent reported a new last school day of Wednesday, June 12, to make up the day lost to Hurricane Sandy, and congratulated students on music-festival qualifications, college scholarships, and the undefeated girls' gymnastics team, which was then recognized by the board.

The board authorized administration to solicit bids for 2013-14 supplies, including industrial arts, science, art, and athletic supplies. It approved a contract to J.C. Pierce, LLC for middle-school construction services arising from a previous contractor's default, funded from bond-fund reserves. A fourth amendment to the Global Management Solutions service agreement was approved. The board authorized a purchase of 117 high-school lockers from Tri-State Lockers from the Capital Reserve Fund; one board member voted against it. An auditorium lighting upgrade from Integrated Theater Systems was tabled after questions about cost and necessity.

The board approved the first reading of revised Policy No. 216, Student Records, and adopted Policy No. 913.1, Facilities Naming. Policy No. 913.2, Commercial Advertising, was tabled. The board approved personnel items—medical and unpaid leaves, a resignation, substitute pay rates, spring/fall/winter coaching staff, substitute support staff, an online-learning-academy position, and a teacher teaching a sixth class—on a roll-call vote, with four board members voting against Item 14. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
