Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on March 25, 2013, in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present—Schisler, Harbaugh, Olszewski, Steele, Tatone, Testa, and Tranter—with one director absent. The meeting opened with a technology discussion led by a doctor, followed by presentations from administrators and teachers across Hyde, McCormick, Allard, Brooks, the middle school, and the high school. The board also heard announcements about the high school hosting the BYU Symphony Band on April 27, a partnership with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and an upcoming Pre-Kindergarten Provider Fair.

The board approved several motions by voice vote. It authorized the Debate Team's participation in the National Debate Tournament in Philadelphia, with anticipated district costs. It approved the 2013/2014 Allegheny Intermediate Unit Program of Services Budget, with the district's contribution and no increase in the district allocation. It approved a crowd management services agreement with Landmark Event Staffing Services, contingent on solicitor approval, and endorsed school donations. It approved the Parkway West 2013-14 General Operating and Building Rental Budgets, increasing the district's allocation by 5.65 percent.

The board passed second-reading policies including new Concussion Management (123.1), a revision to Admission of Students (201) changing Kindergarten and First Grade entry ages beginning 2014-15, new Records Management (800), and a new Administration Regulation (800 AR). It approved the third and final reading of revised Student Records policy (216) and its Attachment. It authorized conferences for PASA scoring in Harrisburg and approved personnel items: a Dishwasher/Server position for an employee, an intermittent unpaid medical leave for an employee, several substitutes, and the resignations of the assistant superintendent effective June 28, 2013, along with two teachers. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
