Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on May 28, 2013, under the president, with seven directors present and two absent. The board appointed a treasurer for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2013, approved a February 14-20, 2014 field trip to Walt Disney World for the marching band, symphonic band, and orchestra, and rescinded and replaced its Act 1 homestead and farmstead resolution. It reappointed PNC Bank as the district depository for fiscal 2013-14 and approved a donation from the Kinder/Morgan Foundation for books at Brooks Elementary.

The board approved a contract with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for special education services in 2013-14 and an agreement with the School Newsletter Company for advertising and layout services through May 31, 2014. It awarded contracts for athletic-supply, athletic-trainer supplies, high school technology/industrial-art supplies, high school science supplies, middle school technology/industrial-art supplies, middle school science supplies, and elementary/middle school art supplies. It authorized a contract for carpet replacement at Bon Meade Elementary by Joe Aiello Flooring and approved a second reading of revised PSBA policies, numbered 000 through 011.

On personnel, the board approved extra-duty pay for an art-show sponsor, hired summer staff including a teacher, speech-language pathologists, a substitute, and a special-education paraeducator, each for eight days. It accepted the resignations of two employees, approved several custodial substitutes pending clearances, named a middle-school building substitute, and granted an employee a family medical leave. The board authorized a contract to JC Pierce, LLC for middle-school construction management and adjourned at 7:30 p.m. All motions passed on voice votes.
