Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met September 9, 2013, called to order by the president, with seven directors present and two absent. The superintendent was thanked for accepting the acting superintendent role. The board approved the August 12 and 26 minutes and a suite of financial reports, then approved the bills across the General, Activities, Food Service, 2010 Bond Fund, and Capital Project funds.

The board approved a second reading of four policies revised by the PSBA and MASD—Policies 200, 202, 202 AT, and 913.2 Commercial Advertisement—with an employee proposing tighter delegation language. It approved a first reading of numerous new and revised policies, including the nondiscrimination and special education series; an employee moved to shorten the textbook display requirement from 30 to 15 days. The board voted on PSBA officer elections, casting a full-board vote before the secretary cast the delegate's electronic vote.

A large personnel motion carried covering resignations, a salary adjustment for a principal, new hires including a librarian and a dishwasher/server, numerous bus-monitor and coaching assignments, fall sports and event management staff, substitutes, and remediation facilitators. The board authorized a 15-plus-15-day public display of Century 21 Accounting and approved seven books for elementary guidance instruction. It authorised a refrigerator purchase from U.S. Foods. Committee reports covered the elementary facilities study, with an input session set for September 23, and Parkway West reported 641 students and two new programs. Board members welcomed the school year, noted the kindergarten cutoff moved to September 1, and thanked the superintendent. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
