Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met September 23, 2013, called to order by the president, with nine directors present and the superintendent and board members seated at the table. The superintendent reported on a 7:00 p.m. Facilities Committee input session on elementary school facilities led by Stantec Architecture, a rescheduled teacher in-service day, and a joint Moon Area–Robert Morris University production of *Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat*.

The board approved the eighth-grade Gettysburg and Hershey Park field trip for May 30–31, 2014, at no cost to the district. It approved policies at all three readings, including new and revised enrollment, non-resident student, nondiscrimination, special education, and facilities policies. The board approved change orders for the middle school construction project increasing costs, after directors questioned lighting, a damaged junction box, and a roof drain. It authorized a compact tractor purchase after trade-in.

On personnel, the board hired two special education teachers, extended and approved leaves, approved dishwasher/server staff, a bus monitor, numerous substitutes, fall sports coaches, remediation facilitators, and a family medical leave. It rescinded an employee's German Club sponsorship and approved a monthly salary adjustment for the superintendent as Acting Superintendent retro to September 11. The board approved an updated *Century 21 Accounting* textbook, conferences for three staff, and fall event staff. All motions passed on voice votes, and the meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
