Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on December 30, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Nine directors were present: the president, and eight other directors. Five administrators sat at the board table, and 15 people attended from the audience.

The board approved the intervention plan for Hyde Elementary School on a motion by a director, seconded by a director. The motion authorized the superintendent to implement the plan, including assigning staff and making expenditures listed on the "Financial Implications" page. Discussion focused on the benchmarks and data presented, with a director requesting a review of past years' scores to assess improvement. The superintendent clarified that the program spans K-4 through the end of the school year and addresses more than test scores. An administrator explained that a consultant would attend data meetings, interpret data, identify interventions, visit classrooms to give teacher feedback, and work with the acting principal. Five directors voiced support, calling the plan proactive and beneficial. The superintendent will provide weekly progress updates to the board. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote.

The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m. on a motion by a director, seconded by a director. An employee served as clerk and a director served as secretary.
