Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on January 27, 2014, at 7:10 p.m., in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, and the superintendent announced a school safety and security community meeting for January 29, noting that sixth-grade science teachers had received an Elementary/Middle School Science Equipment Grant from the Society for Analytical Chemists, providing Apple TV units for their classrooms.

The board voted unanimously on a series of motions. It authorized posting and advertising of the 2014-15 preliminary budget, approved second reading of ten policies revised by the PSBA and MASD, approved first reading of eight policies, and approved the elimination of Policy 225, Students and the Police. It approved a two-year renewal of Sun Life employee benefits insurance beginning March 1, 2014, with an estimated annual cost increase, and approved the developer's affidavits and easement agreement with the Moon Township Municipal Authority for water line and sanitary sewer construction on the secondary school campus. The board also approved a booster group advertising request under Policy 913.2 and accepted superintendent recommendations for disciplinary action against two students, #45426 and #46467.

On personnel, the board approved a long-term substitute guidance counselor at Allard Elementary, and granted medical or family leaves to four employees. It approved a dishwasher/server, a teacher for a sixth class, rescinded a recommendation for extra pay for a talent show sponsor, approved a mentor to the long-term substitute guidance counselor, approved a building-based substitute, and approved a PSSA remediation facilitator. It also approved a list of substitutes including teachers, custodians, and a school nurse, several pending clearances. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
