Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met March 10, 2014, with the president presiding and all nine directors present. The board approved the minutes from February 10 and 24, along with the March financial reports, and authorized the monthly bills across the General, Activities, Food Service, Investment, and Capital Project funds. It approved a Studio Ten Photography services agreement, endorsed a resolution from a March 6 hearing on a student, and voted for a resident to serve as School Board Trustee for the Western Region in the Allegheny County Schools Health Insurance Consortium.

The board approved its third and final reading of six PSBA/MASD policies—236, 238, 239, 240, 247, and 251—and approved final budget transfers for the 2012-2013 General Fund. It approved the 2014-2015 proposed calendar, which adds a full spring break week. Field trips were authorized for the Odyssey of the Mind team, the Speech and Debate team, the Academic Games, and the Debate team. The board authorized AstroTurf stadium turf replacement from the Capital Project Fund.

Personnel actions included approving mentors, an after-school remediation facilitator, an extra-duty bus monitor, several childbearing leaves, substitutes, and spring sports coaches, plus accepting the retirements of three employees. A director's resignation as Director of Fiscal and School Services, effective May 1, was accepted. A motion to purchase electric and natural gas was tabled. Committee reports covered PSSA testing schedules, policy reviews, the elementary capital improvement program options, and the Moon Transportation Authority's Thorn Run Interchange project. The meeting adjourned at 9:58 p.m.
