Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met August 11, 2014, in the High School Auditorium, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent. The superintendent presided over the business.

The board approved the August financial reports and approved the monthly bills across the General Fund, Activities Fund, Food Service, and Investment Account.

In personnel, the board approved a large batch of hires for 2014-2015, all pending clearances where noted: a director of guidance, school counseling and gifted education; an elementary music teacher; several special education, French, and elementary teachers; and two teachers on assignment. It also approved multiple long-term substitutes, several medical and childbearing leaves, a retirement, and department chairpersons plus numerous extra-duty assignments at Brooks, Middle School, Hyde, Allard, and McCormick elementary schools. The personnel package passed on a roll call vote, with one director voting in disfavor.

The board approved a service agreement with The Watson Institute through June 30, 2015; a letter of agreement with the Staunton Clinic for Student Assistance Program mental health services; a renewal with Morris University for internships and student teaching; and a contract with Pa-Educator.net. It approved a new high school math course, Math Methods, Theory and Practice, and a second reading of revised Policy #217 on graduation requirements. The board also approved a resolution regarding a student and waived part of Policy #202 to allow enrollment of future residents without tuition for 45 school days. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
