Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met September 22, 2014, in the High School Board Room, called to order by the president. Directors present included the president, a director, a director, a director, a director, a director, and a director; a director was absent, and a director arrived at 8:12 p.m.

The board approved the September financial report across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Investment accounts. It authorized soliciting bids for the sale of a dump truck with about 70,000 miles, to be sold for scrap if no bids arrive within 30 days. The board appointed Boenning & Scattergood to provide investment banking and underwriting services for the Elementary Capital Improvement Program, with a superintendent-negotiated engagement letter pending review at the October 13 meeting.

The board authorized acquiring Aptafund, an integrated administrative software product from Harris School Solutions, for accounting, HR, purchasing, and payroll, with a first-year leasing cost and training and implementation costs. This was the only item with a dissenting vote, with a director voting against. The board approved the Alternative Education Program agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the Cyber and Arts Academy agreement with Ambridge Area School District, and the acceptance of a donation of binders and filing supplies from ANH Refractories. It also approved a settlement agreement with an employee.

Conferences approved included a teacher's state convention, and a director and a director's leadership conference, though the director could not attend. In personnel actions, the board accepted the retirements of two employees, accepted the resignation of an employee, approved a building-based substitute, two custodians, several substitutes, two new positions (Maintenance Groundskeeper and Athletic Custodian), and posted job descriptions. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
