Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on October 27, 2014, in the High School Board Room at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Eight directors were present—the president, Schisler, Tatone, LaRue, Testa, Harbaugh, Hauser, and Tranter—with Bussard absent and Tatone joining by conference call. The superintendent filed no report and there were no audience remarks.

The board approved payment of the monthly bills for the period October 16 to October 23, 2014, under General Funding, on a motion by Tranter seconded by Harbaugh; all directors voted in favor. It then proposed appointing LaRue to a five-year term on the Moon Transportation Authority board beginning January 2015, on a motion by Schisler seconded by Testa, with the condition that LaRue resign from the Moon Transportation Authority board if his school board service ends early. All directors approved except Tranter, who abstained because he is not a resident and thus ineligible to serve on the Moon Transportation Authority.

On a motion by Harbaugh seconded by Tranter, the board accepted the resignation of a bus monitor at McCormick Elementary School, his last day being October 20, 2014, and approved a new employee for that position effective October 21. It approved a teacher to teach a sixth-grade class at the Middle School, alternating days equaling one semester. It approved two substitutes, pending updated clearances. It also approved a childrearing leave of absence for the choral director at the Middle School, effective immediately, with her return on January 5, 2015. All personnel items passed on a voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m. on a motion by Schisler seconded by Hauser.
