Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met November 24, 2014, in the High School Board Room, called to order by the president. Eight directors were present; one director was absent. The board accepted the 2013-2014 Financial Audit, approved bills for payment, and approved a software license for 2014-15, paid from the Food Services Fund. It approved a computer lease from VAR Resources, Inc. to spread laptop costs for the one-to-one initiative over four years.

The board directed the superintendent to begin the request-for-proposal process for audit services, with the finance committee involved, and for legal services across six categories, with the board as a whole, effective March 1, 2015. It approved an expulsion agreement regarding a student, an amended settlement agreement with MAESPA, and appointed an employee as Open Records Officer. It also approved optional travel insurance, the 2015 meeting calendar, and two field trips: the American Cultures Club to Italy in June 2016 at no district cost, and the Academic Games Team to Orlando in April 2015, with a spending cap.

The board approved several staff conferences and a large personnel package, including a Middle School substitute teacher, leaves of absence, multiple bus monitor resignations and replacements, playground and cafeteria resignations, lab facilitators, and substitutes. The superintendent reported that Moon Area High School ranked 364th nationally by Newsweek, and administrators presented on Classroom Diagnostic Tools and the repurposing of Richard J. Hyde Elementary. The meeting adjourned at 9:20 pm.
