Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on January 12, 2015, called to order by the president, with nine directors present and the superintendent in attendance. The board opened with School Director Recognition Month tributes, a performance by the Hyde Elementary ORFFestra, and congratulations to Hyde Elementary for earning the federal Title I Reward for High Achievement designation.

The board approved the November and December 2014 minutes and the January financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General, Activities, and Food Service funds. A director voted against the MM Architects payment and a follow-up motion asking the solicitor to review the contract and payment schedule, raising concerns that payments preceded board approval of PlanCon D. The board approved PlanCon D and E, the district-wide feasibility study, and PlanCon A and B, with one director dissenting on each. It approved the proposed repurposing of Richard J. Hyde Elementary School on a roll call vote, with two directors dissenting, and authorized architectural services from MM Architects for the Hyde kitchen. The board released an RFQ for an Energy Savings Performance Contract, appointed Hartman, Underhill and Brubaker LLC then amended to Maiello, Brungo and Maiello as special counsel for the ESCO program, and authorized Construction Engineering Consultants to perform geotechnical work at Allard Elementary.

The board approved the 2015-2016 school calendar, a letter of agreement with Pressley Ridge, several athletic field trips with no district cost, and administrative conferences. It approved a wide range of personnel actions, including leaves of absence, substitutes, a nurse, an assistant principal, and coaching staff, and accepted the disciplinary action against a student. The board approved the purchase of Think Through Math software, a speech and language therapy proposal with River Pediatric Therapies, and a Moon Transportation Authority resolution. The meeting adjourned at 11:05 pm.
