Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met January 26, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., with the president presiding and nine directors present. The board approved personnel actions, including medical leave for a science teacher and maternity/FMLA leave for an English teacher, accepted the resignations of two employees, and hired a Teacher/Playground Aide at Allard Elementary, a part-time long-term substitute guidance aide, a Kindergarten Intervention Teacher, and an employee to serve as both a Varsity Football Coach and an English teacher. The board also approved a large list of substitutes, several pending clearance review.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period January 13–22, 2015, split between the General Fund, Activities Fund, and Food Service Fund. It authorized the administration to post and advertise the 2015-16 preliminary budget; a motion to call the question passed on a roll call vote, with one director dissenting, and the underlying motion passed on a voice vote with the same director again dissenting. The board approved a geotechnical services proposal from Construction Engineering Consultants, Inc. for track resurfacing preparation, and a School Safety Tabletop Exercise Consultation Proposal from National School Safety and Security Services, after recessing to discuss school safety.

The board approved soliciting bids and selling a lift and a generator as unnecessary or unusable equipment, to be scrapped if unsold within 30 days. It approved several field trips: a band member to the PMEA Region Band Festival in Hermitage, the rugby teams to Charlotte, North Carolina, and the dance teams to Chicago, with no anticipated district costs for the latter two. The board approved a conference for an employee at the 2015 PDE Data Summit in Hershey. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
