Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on March 23, 2015, in the High School Board Room, called to order by the president, with nine directors present and nine administrators seated at the board table. The board tabled three agenda items: the food service equipment contract, the elevator equipment contract letter of intent, and the recommendation for legal services.

After the superintendent's report, which featured a performance by a student, the board heard public comments about asbestos abatement. A motion to delay all asbestos work until summer vacation was tabled from the agenda and voted down on a roll call, with all directors voting against except two directors, who voted in favor.

The board approved the monthly bills for late February to March 20, 2015, following a discussion in which a director questioned payments to M&M Architects. The board approved the elevator bid documents for Allard and Brooks Elementary from Marotta/Main Architects. It approved the food service equipment contract letter of intent for Clark Food Service Equipment across Allard, Brooks, and the Hyde facility, despite objections from two directors about missing cost details. The board tabled the roofing contract for Allard and Brooks Elementary from Garland, until the architect answered questions about bids and insulation costs. It approved the Mayflower Transit/Debo moving services contract for Brooks Elementary.

The board approved the MaherDuessel audit services addendum, the Comcast E-rate service agreements, the Ideal Integrations network proposal, the Marching Band trip to Orlando, and the Allegheny County Juvenile Court probation agreement. It approved coaches, educational sabbaticals, four retirements, a teacher assignment, substitutes, and an Act 80 day. The superintendent gave an informational overview of 2015-2016 budget issues before the board adjourned at 10:06 pm.
