Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met April 13, 2015, with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved administration's recommendation for legal services through its November 2014 RFP process, appointing a legal representative from Andrews & Beard for general legal work and a legal representative from Weiss Burkhardt and Kramer for special education. It approved the March financial reports, treasurer's report, investment report, and monthly financial statements, and authorized the monthly bills across the General Fund, Food Service, and Activity funds.

The board approved the 2015-2016 Allegheny Intermediate Unit Program of Services Budget, a five-year Edmentum software licensing agreement for Plato Coursework, and a solar energy request for proposal with proposals due June 24, 2015. It approved PlanCon F prime contract bids for General, Sprinkler, Plumbing, and Electrical at J.A. Allard Elementary and J.H. Brooks Elementary, and issued letters of intent for a Garland roofing contract and a McClure HVAC contract. The HVAC vote passed 7-1, with a director dissenting after raising conflict-of-interest concerns about McClure and its sister company McCarl. The board also approved the sale of an old generator to a resident, accepted a donation of 160 bags of lime from Inches Nursery, and signed a memorandum of understanding with Robert Morris University for evacuation shelter arrangements.

On personnel, the board approved the retirements of three employees, several bus-monitor and food-service hires, a maternity leave for an employee, and fall and winter coaching staff. The girls soccer head coach vote passed 7-1 with the director dissenting. The superintendent reported on wrestling, rugby, elementary transportation schedule changes, and successful spring-break asbestos abatement. The meeting closed at 8:30 pm after audience comments on board conduct and bus transportation.
