Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met June 22, 2015, in the High School Board Room, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period June 6 to June 19, 2015, and approved the 2015 bond debt resolution from Eckert Seamans Cherin & Merlott, following a presentation from Boenning & Scattergood on the Series 2005 bond refunding. It approved an escrow deposit agreement with the Township of Moon and Eckert Seamans, an independent auditor's report from Maher Duessel, and exonerated the tax collectors from unpaid 2014 taxes plus unpaid 2012 and 2013 taxes.

The board approved asbestos abatement at Allard Elementary for American Contracting Engineering Enterprises, with the superintendent confirming air quality monitoring before school opens. It approved a security services contract with Capital Asset Protection, a right-of-way agreement for Brooks Elementary for an underground line, and two PPG Industries Foundation grants—one for a middle school drone project and one for a high school aerodynamics program. It also approved agreements with Crisis Center North, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, and Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit.

The board approved a purchase of textbooks, including a purchase of National Geographic science materials, and approved elementary schedules for 2015-16, the only motion passing with one director voting against. Personnel actions included approving an employee as Director of Food Services, four teacher hires at McCormick and Brooks Elementary and the High School, approval for an employee to attend the Pennsylvania Education Policy Fellowship Program, and acceptance of the Athletic Director's resignation effective July 22. The board approved a conference on school discipline for an employee, then adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
