Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on October 5, 2015, at 7:05 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Seven directors were present; two were absent. The superintendent filed no report and there was no correspondence.

The board approved bills for payment for the period September 12 to October 2, 2015, split across the General, Other Capital Projects, and Activity funds. An amendment withheld a payment to Marotta/Main Architects pending additional information, and a director voted against that payment. The board also approved Procedures on Tax-Exempt Obligations and Secondary Market Disclosure Procedures.

Several capital and equipment purchases were approved: a purchase from Cabletechs for VGA wiring at Allard Elementary's Promethean boards, and a purchase from Intertech Security for a PA system in the middle school gyms. The board accepted a donation of 200 books from the Subaru Loves Learning book drive and approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Moon Township Police Department for a School Resource Officer, noting a grant application was pending. A middle school eighth-grade field trip to Gettysburg and Hershey Park in May 2016 was approved.

The board approved numerous personnel actions, including tenure for two teachers, a maternity leave for an employee, a medical leave for an employee, and the retirement of an employee. It accepted the resignation of a school psychologist and approved numerous extra-duty assignments, substitutes, mentors, instructional leaders, coaches, and event management staff. Two employees were approved for AppliTrack certification courses in Ohio. A director again voted against the conference approvals, arguing for a moratorium on conference attendance due to the budget. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
