Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met November 2, 2015, in the High School Board Room, with the president presiding. Nine directors were present, with a solicitor from Marshall, Dennehey seated at the table. The board approved an amended agenda item 7.13, a resolution declaring that two directors had never been authorized to bring their July 2015 suit against the district and its superintendent, and that no insurance claims had been authorized for that action; all directors voted in favor, with the two directors abstaining. The board approved the monthly bills for October, accepted a grant from ADK-PA Delta for a third-grade writing project at McCormick Elementary, and approved travel accident insurance for administrators. It approved the renewal of Study Island services and authorized a field trip for the Academic Games team to Atlanta in April 2016.

A heated exchange occurred over a legal-services bill to Abom & Kutulakis for the superintendent's defense, which the board had approved in the superintendent's contract; the solicitor confirmed this was proper and not a voting item. The board tabled the pool-area repair contract with Huckestein Mechanical Services until November 9 to research extended warranties, and tabled the sale of kitchen equipment to a resident for clarification. After an executive session, the board rejected a motion to delay the superintendent's raise, bringing his salary to a new amount, and approved it, along with his 2015-2016 goals. The board approved conference costs, numerous personnel actions including new hires, mentors, substitutes, a psychologist, two tenure grants, and a baseball coach, and accepted the resignations of two employees. It approved the sale, donation, or scrapping of unusable equipment at Allard and Brooks schools. The meeting adjourned at 8:52 p.m.
