Board of Education Meeting - Business Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its December 7, 2015, business meeting, called to order by the president. The board placed the district superintendent on administrative leave with pay, appointing an interim superintendent effective December 8, 2015, through June 30, 2016, at a per diem rate with no benefits. Both motions passed except for two board members, who dissented. The board authorized the district solicitor to settle and discontinue litigation with the Moon Transportation Authority, approved the mutual termination of a lease with Special Education and Behavioral Connection, LLC, and terminated its software agreement with N. Harris Computer Corporation. It entered into a new agreement with the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit for software services and hired Wilke and Associates for a special audit. The board accepted the resignation of the chief operations and financial officer, effective December 2, 2015, and approved the monthly bills. It approved the law firm of Weiss, Burkhardt, Kramer, LLC for tax and special education counsel, started a girls' golf team for 2016-2017, and approved participation in the AIU Joint Purchasing Program, appointing two board members. The board tabled the electricity supply agreement with Direct Energy, the trash and recycling bid from Valley Waste Service, motions 5.12 and 5.13, and two adjudication resolutions for further review. It approved the 2016 meeting schedule and rejected a conference for an individual, with the president voting no. The board directed the interim superintendent to assemble a team to study reverting to five K-4 elementary buildings, with a vote planned for the January 25 workshop. Several new board members delivered remarks, promising transparency and reversals of prior decisions, while two board members voiced opposition to key measures. The meeting adjourned at 9:35 p.m.
