Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on March 28, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Eight directors were present, with one director absent. Prior to the meeting, the board held an executive session on personnel and litigation matters.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period March 16-24, 2016, across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service Fund, and 2015 Bond Fund. It approved Option #4 of the elementary redistricting proposal for 2016-2017, passing with all directors voting in favor except two directors, one of whom stated he had not had enough time to review the options.

The board approved Resolution 2016-1 regarding the Moon Transportation Authority, authorized an interim agreement with Foreman Project Construction Managers and Cannon Design for architectural and engineering services at the 2016 hourly rate schedule, and approved Keystone Educational Consulting Group to provide professional development. It approved lease agreements with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for its Pre-K Counts, Head Start, and Dart programs, each running July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017.

On personnel, the board authorized eliminating the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer and Director of Special Education positions, created and posted a Director of Fiscal and School Services position, and approved an employee to the Director of Pupil Services position effective immediately. It also approved a coaching-staff correction and a list of substitutes.

The board approved field trips for the choral program to Walt Disney World, the orchestra and choir to Hershey for the All State festival, and the STEM team to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. It approved conferences for four administrators in Boston, and authorized TaylorMade Solutions, LLC, to repair and replace the crosswalk at the entrance. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
