Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met April 11, 2016, in the High School Board Meeting Room at 7:15 p.m., with the president presiding. All ten directors were present, and the board met in executive session before and after the public meeting on personnel and litigation matters.

The board approved the minutes from February 22, March 14, and March 28, 2016, along with the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and food service reports. It approved the bills across the general, activity, food service, and capital projects funds. The board authorized a Tax and Revenue Anticipation Note, Series 2016, and accepted PNC Bank's proposal to issue a portion of it. It accepted the annual financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015, issued by the auditor.

On the electricity contract, the board approved a three-year supply agreement with Constellation New Energy at a fixed rate of 5.581, after amending the original one-year motion; the vote split five in favor and four against. The board joined the Western Pennsylvania Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Consortium, accepted Valley Waste's proposal for trash and recycling removal through April 30, 2019, and approved asbestos pre-design and monitoring services from Professional Service Industries for Hyde Elementary. It approved track redevelopment alternates C, 4, and 6, with a director dissenting on the amended motion. The board retained the senior project as a graduation requirement, renamed the Senior "Career Awareness" Portfolio, and revived the Olweus anti-bullying program.

The board approved first readings of Policies 824 and 916 and second readings of Policies 301, 302, and 828. It authorized field trips for the Rugby Club, the TSA team to Nashville, and Odyssey of the Mind to Iowa State. Personnel approvals included leaves for three employees, plus a van driver and two substitutes. The meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
