Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met May 16, 2016, with seven directors present and two absent. The president called the meeting to order.

The board approved the minutes from April 11 and 25, 2016, along with the May financial reports, voting unanimously. It approved bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Projects funds. The board retained the interim superintendent from July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2017, and authorized the administration to solicit proposals for a Tax and Revenue Anticipation Note for fiscal year 2017.

The board approved a landscaping proposal from Inches Nursery, Inc. to replace dead and missing plants; all directors voted in favor except one director. It appointed a board treasurer for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2016, with the same dissent from the same director. The board approved a contract with Keystone Oaks School District to participate in the Project Succeed Consortium for 2016-2017, created a Career Awareness Portfolio Extra Duty Position to replace the senior project coordinator, and approved a new Moon Area High School Unified Bocce Team beginning in 2016-2017.

The board approved first and final readings of revised student conduct policies, first readings of conduct/disciplinary, child abuse, and suicide awareness policies, second readings of policies on adult-student boundaries and volunteers, and third and final readings of policies on creating a position, employing a superintendent, and fraud. It approved a German department field trip to Germany in 2018 and a biology class trip to the Galapagos Islands in 2018, both with no anticipated district costs.

The board accepted several resignations and retirements, including an assistant superintendent, and approved leaves of absence for two employees. It approved spring event staff workers and a varsity head wrestling coach. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
