Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education, meeting June 13, 2016, under the president, approved a series of motions covering budgets, contracts, bids, personnel, and policy. The board approved bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Projects funds, and adopted high school science and AP English textbooks. It approved the middle school program of studies, elementary redistricting returning several streets to Bon Meade Elementary, and a FieldTurf change order.

The board contracted several service providers: DJ Morgan Educational Consulting for special education transition consulting, Pediatric Therapy Specialists for occupational and physical therapy beginning July 1, 2016, Questeq for technology services, and Eric Ryan Corporation to review utility and data billing for a monthly fee over two years. That last motion passed except for the president and a board member, who voted against it. The board also accepted proposals for Hyde Elementary School roof repairs from Tuscano-Maher Roofing and HVAC repairs from CS&E, both funded by the bond fund, plus a Bactronix Corp. proposal for a BactroKart sanitation system.

Bid awards included general supplies through Keystone Purchasing and high school industrial arts supplies. The board approved participation in the Kennedy School of Driving end-of-course skills test program and the Act 1 Homestead/Farmstead exclusion. Personnel actions approved the interim athletic director, several extended school year teachers and substitutes, spring and fall coaching staff, gymnastics instructors, a STA van driver, and summer help workers, and accepted the resignation of an employee. Two childrearing leaves of absence were approved, with the president voting against the head girls soccer coach appointment. The board tabled first-reading and third-reading policy revisions. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
