Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met June 27, 2016, in the High School, with the president presiding and eight directors present; one director was absent. After an executive session on personnel and litigation, the board approved the monthly bills across four funds. It tabled a resolution amending the Thorn Run Transportation District pending solicitor review, then adopted the 2016-2017 General Fund final budget with a 19.5576-mill real estate rate, a specific amount in revenues, a specific amount in expenditures, a specific amount drawn from unassigned fund balance, and a net deficit funded by extended-term financing. One director voted against the budget; all others approved. The board also approved the final tax levy, a Series 2017 tax and revenue anticipation note, and accepted PNC Bank's proposal to issue it.

The board accepted the independent auditor's report and exonerated the township tax collectors, approved filing 146 delinquent 2015 tax liens, and renewed insurance: Liberty Mutual commercial package, excess liability, UPMC workers' compensation, and PSBA volunteer accident. It entered a three-year AED leasing program with CPR1, contracted Civil & Environmental Consultants for surveying at Hyde Elementary, and approved bids of American Industrial Contracting, Arena Painting, and Joe Aiello Flooring at Hyde. Cabletechs received a contract to update security cameras. The board named an employee as Brooks Elementary principal, approved three policies on final reading, authorized two staff conferences, and approved personnel including leave returns, a clerk, fall coaches, a spring event worker, and a summer van driver. It approved a settlement involving a student, then adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
