Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on August 22, 2016, at 7:05 p.m., in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, and the board had met in executive session beforehand on personnel, litigation, and safety matters.

The board approved the Moon Education Association collective bargaining agreement for July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2021, and approved the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Services, and Capital Project funds for August 8–19, 2016. It also approved ArbiterPay for athletic officials, a new PNC Bank investment account, and tax collection attorney fee Resolution No. 2016-3.

The board accepted equipment purchases: four lawn tractors with mower decks from Middletown Tractor Sales under a State Power Equipment contract, a hydraulic concrete breaker from Bobcat of Pittsburgh, and curb and sidewalk work at Bon Meade and Hyde Elementary Schools from TaylorMade Solutions LLC. A PAEducator.net contract was approved, along with conference approvals for two payroll staff.

The board took action on numerous personnel items, including an unpaid leave for a long-term substitute, the retirement resignation of an employee, and new hires such as an assistant principal and a Grade 2 teacher. It approved coaches, substitutes, STA drivers, and remediation coordinators.

Notably, the board voted to table the capital projects motion for 2016-17, with the president and two other directors dissenting, and voted to table policy readings for first, first-and-final, and third readings, with the president dissenting in each. The board approved temporary closure of all campuses effective August 31, 2016, and adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
