Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on October 10, 2016, under the president, with eight directors present and one absent. After an executive session on personnel, litigation, and safety, the board recognized two Eagle Scouts, heard the MASD superintendent search survey results, and received committee updates on the Moon Transportation Authority's Thorn Run and Stevenson Mill projects and Student Activities' possible strength coach and athletic sponsorship deals.

The board approved the September minutes and October financial reports, then approved the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Project funds. It approved an expulsion agreement for a student, designated the Director of Fiscal and School Services as Compliance Officer, and authorized a Taylor Made Solutions change order for Bon Meade Elementary sidewalks. It accepted Digital Assurance Certification's SEC post-issuance compliance services for the first year, and approved an All Call Paging System at Hyde Elementary and generator maintenance. A maintenance vehicle purchase from Woltz & Wind Ford was tabled.

The board approved numerous personnel actions, including leaves, a long-term substitute, building substitutes, extra-duty pay, event workers, and substitutes. It adopted 15 revised policies covering purchasing, employment, evaluation, budget, and tax levy, and approved middle school activity accounts and high school clubs. It authorized the Foreman Group for HVAC inspections, allocated funds for the swim team's attire, and authorized the superintendent to secure three bids for the stadium PA system. The stadium sound motion was pulled from the agenda. Board members commented on homecoming and maintenance needs at Allard and Brooks, and the president noted a donation and an upcoming basketball fundraiser. The meeting adjourned at 8:23 pm.
