Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on October 24, 2016, in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the Vice President. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent.

The board approved district bills for the period October 10 to October 21, 2016, split across the General, Activity, Food Services, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds. It accepted proposals from Foreman Group for HVAC commissioning services at J.A. Allard Elementary and J.H. Brooks Elementary. The board approved first and final reading of seven revised policies—606 Tax Collection, 607 Tuition Income, 608 Bank Accounts, 316 Non-tenured Employees, 318 Penalties for Tardiness, 319 Outside Activities, and 320 Freedom of Speech in Non-School Settings—and approved removal of Policy 315, Disqualification by Reason of Health. It also approved participation in the 2016 Act 1 Homestead/Farmstead mailing.

On personnel, the board accepted the retirement resignations of two employees and the resignations of two employees. It approved leaves of absence for three employees. The board hired a special education teacher at Bon Meade Elementary, approved numerous extra-duty positions across schools, fall and winter event management workers, coaches, substitutes, STA van drivers, and pay rate increases for support staff, custodial staff, summer help, and recreational swimming lifeguards. It also approved two staff conferences. All motions passed on roll call votes, and the meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
