Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on November 14, 2016, under the president, with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved the minutes from September 29, October 10, and October 24, 2016, and authorized the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Project funds. It approved the 2017 AIU Joint Purchasing Resolution and adopted revised policies covering purchases, payroll authorizations and deductions, tax sheltered accounts, cooperative purchasing, payment of bills, petty cash, fund balance, gifts, dress and grooming, and the complaint policy.

The board accepted two donations for the Hyde Elementary Accelerated Reader Program, one from The Eger Eye Group and one from a business. It approved a partnership with Hi-Tech Learning for after-school and summer technology programs piloting at McCormick and Hyde Elementary Schools, and accepted a proposal from Dave Hallman Chevrolet for two 2017 Chevrolet Express school vans under COSTARS Contract 26-038. The board authorized transportation and lodging for the Girls' Soccer team to the state championship and approved a cost-free Speech and Debate field trip to the Princeton Classic tournament.

Personnel actions included leaves of absence for three employees, a rescinded leave and extended sick leave for a long-term substitute math teacher, a building assistant, a retirement resignation, and several resignations and extra-duty approvals. The board approved substitute custodians and cafeteria and clerical staff, the superintendent's job description, and AIU agreements for school psychologist services and social worker services. It approved the filing of 49 delinquent 2015 real estate tax liens in Crescent Township. The elementary remediation coordinators and facilitators item was tabled. The superintendent's, Finance, Facilities, and Solicitor reports were not presented, while the Education Committee reported strong PSSA performance and a planned student-data system decision in December. The meeting adjourned at 7:43 pm.
