Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met March 13, 2017, under the president, with all nine directors present. The board approved the February minutes and a batch of financial reports, with a staff member noting that procurement-card spending had fallen and that food services was operating in the black. It approved the bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds, and adopted the district's Comprehensive Plan for July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020.

The board accepted a Chevron Grant for the "Project Lead the Way" program for the 2018-2019 elementary year, approved Parkway West's 2017-18 general operating budget, jointure budget, and the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Program of Services budget. It approved lease agreements with the AIU for Pre-K Counts, Head Start, and Dart programs running July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018, plus a consultation-services agreement to support the ESL program. The board nominated a resident as a school board trustee for the Western Region and approved first-and-final readings of thirteen revised policies covering head lice, student welfare, drug testing, service animals, records management, school organization, calendar, school day, emergency preparedness, law-enforcement relations, rapid notification, flag displays, and computerized-information breaches.

On personnel, the board approved a medical leave for an employee, hired an employee as a middle school dishwasher/server, accepted the resignation of a middle school cook, approved several club and team sponsors, coaches for the spring and fall seasons, an STA driver, and a remediation facilitator, and granted stipends each to three Odyssey of the Mind coordinators. Directors congratulated the gymnastics, boys' basketball, and swimming teams, the musical, and a student spelling-bee champion, and the president said finalists for the superintendent's search were being vetted with a decision expected in April.
