Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on March 27, 2017, called to order by the president, with nine directors present and a prior executive session on personnel noted. The board approved bills across the General, Activity, Food Services, and Capital Projects funds for March 12–24. It approved PlanCon Part K project refinancing for General Obligation Bonds Series A of 2010, accepted a contribution in a student's name as a scholarship, and approved a Cabletechs proposal to replace two high school stadium speakers from the 2015 Bond Fund. The board approved the 2017-2018 services agreement and 2016-2017 addendum with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, IDEA Part B fund-use agreements, and the AIU special education pricing guide. It retired policies under Administrative, Professional, and Classified Employees into a new 300 Employees category and approved first-and-final readings of revised policies covering diabetes management, electronic devices, student recruitment, tax sheltered accounts, bonding, property insurance, copyright material, and AED/CPR.

The board approved a student field trip to England and France in June 2018 for the American Cultures and French Clubs at no anticipated cost, and a speech and debate trip to Louisville in May 2017 with district costs. In personnel actions, it approved a director's 3.5-year contract, accepted a custodian's retirement effective April 6, approved several pending substitute hires, and authorized extra pay for an employee's bus duty. An employee was nominated and accepted as secretary of the Parkway West Career and Technology Center board. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Reports covered the district's PenSPRA awards, the boys' basketball WPIAL title, a student's national spelling bee advancement, and STEM funding from the Chevron Project Lead the Way grant and the expanded Ohio River Consortium.
