Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met April 24, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., with the president presiding. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent.

The board approved the monthly bills for April 9–21, split across the General, Activity, and Food Services funds. It accepted the J.C. Ehrlich Company's pest-control proposal for July 2017 through June 2018, and Headrick Elevator Company's maintenance contract for elevators at the high school, middle school, and McCormick and Hyde elementary schools. It also approved B & R Pools and Swim Shop for weekly pool testing. The board adopted a Response and Corrective Action Plan addressing a February 2017 performance audit by the Pennsylvania Auditor General.

The board appointed a director as treasurer for the July 2017–June 2018 term, passing 6–1 with one director dissenting. It approved a cooperative wrestling agreement with the Cornell School District for the 2017–2018 season, a license agreement letting a parish use the middle school as an emergency disaster site, and the retirement of policies 814.1 and 814.2 into Policy 815. It approved first-and-final reading of eleven revised policies covering career-technical education, facilities, safety, insurance, and internet use.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignation of the Director of Human Resources effective June 30, approved leaves for two employees, and approved substitutes, track-event workers, and an unpaid business-office intern. It accepted the resignation of a sponsor and approved another employee in her place. The board approved a June 13 band and orchestra trip to Cedar Point with no district cost, and two paid-by-provider Navy orientation visits to San Diego. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
