Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met May 22, 2017, under the president, and approved the 2017-2018 General Fund Budget, totaling a specific amount in appropriations against a specific amount in funds available, with a specific estimated fund balance. The board approved bills for payment totaling a specific amount across five funds.

The board appointed the superintendent for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2017, voting in favor with the exception of three board members, who voted against. One board member said he believed she would do well but was not his choice. The board appointed an acting superintendent and approved an independent consulting agreement with Dr. Donna Milanovich.

The board approved cell phone booster installations at Brooks Elementary, McCormick Elementary, and the high school, paid from the 2015 Bond Fund. It approved agreements with Kelly Services and Precision HR Solutions for substitute staffing, and with DJ Morgan Educational Consulting for special education transition consulting, capped at a specific amount. A location agreement with Twenty Mile Productions to film a production in the high school auditorium was approved pending solicitor review.

The board adopted 8 revised policies, approved the summer help program, and accepted the appointment of a Crescent Township Deputy Tax Collector. It approved field trips for the Odyssey of the Mind team to Michigan State and the Technology Student Association team to Orlando, and approved conferences for an employee.

Personnel actions included a leave of absence for an employee, hires for two employees, acceptances of resignations from three employees, elimination of a middle school nurse assistant position, creation of a high school nurse assistant position, and approval of job descriptions, a gymnastics instructor, fall 2017 coaches and volunteers, substitutes, and summer Keystone test administrators. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
