Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met June 26, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Directors present included the president, and 6 other directors; 1 director was absent, and another director arrived at 7:13 p.m. The board had met in executive session beforehand on personnel and litigation.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period of June 11–23, 2017, and adopted the final 2017-2018 General Fund budget, funded by local, state, and federal sources with an estimated fund balance. It set a final tax levy of 20.3028 mills, a 0.7452-mill real estate increase, with all other tax rates unchanged. Insurance renewals were approved: a commercial package from Liberty Mutual, excess liability, workers' compensation from UPMC, and volunteer accident insurance from PSBA.

The board approved agreements with Crisis Center North for prevention education and counseling, the Watson Institute for training services, and a three-year HVAC, DDC, security, and surveillance contract with Combustion Service & Equipment Co. It also accepted a preventive maintenance addendum, a continuum software upgrade, and Mongiovi & Son for fire extinguisher inspections. Textbooks for middle school science and high school social studies were approved, along with the middle school program of studies. The marching band's September 16 trip to Canton, Ohio, was approved.

Personnel actions included hiring an administrative assistant for special education, rescinding a medical leave request, appointing a Clerk to the Board, approving independent contractors for medical, dental, and eye exams plus a MAPS/Olweus facilitator and prevention education specialist, and approving summer help, a STA driver, fall coaches, and spring sports head coaches. The meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
