Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its regular meeting on July 17, 2017, called to order by the president, with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved the minutes from June 12 and June 26, 2017, along with a suite of financial reports, and authorized payment of the monthly bills across five funds. It authorized the superintendent to electronically sign contracts and grants, and awarded a paper contract to W.B. Mason.

The board awarded high school Industrial Arts and Science supply bids across multiple vendors. It approved TaylorMade Solution, LLC for sidewalk and curb repair and Sure Line, Inc. for tennis court repair, both from the bond fund. The board approved the 2018 meeting calendar, the Kennedy School of Driving End-of-Course Skills Test Program, and several pupil-services agreements with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and Holy Family Institute, plus a no-cost voluntary student accident plan through Goodwin & Gruber.

The board tabled a motion to reassign students from five streets to a school. It approved several field trips, including the marching band to Washington and Jefferson College, the swim team to Ohio, and the symphonic band and choir to Florida and New York. It authorized the superintendent to hire for unfilled positions before the August 29 start, approved salary step-placement guidelines, and a conference. On personnel, the board accepted two resignations, approved a school psychologist as the district school psychologist, and authorized administrative salary adjustments, plus driving and gymnastics instructors. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm.
