Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on August 28, 2017, presided over by the president, with seven directors present and two absent. The board approved district bills for the period August 13 to August 25, 2017, split across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Capital Projects Fund, and Capital Reserve Fund. It approved a security guard proposal from Graham & Graham Investigation & Security Service for the High School and Middle School, renewed its Catastrophe Accident Insurance with Goodwin & Gruber Agency, and approved nonresident enrollment exceptions under Policy No. 202.

The board authorized district procurement cards, noting 11 users, and accepted a Consolidated Federal Grant Agreement, with Title I funds paying teacher salaries and benefits and Title IV funding professional development. It approved a Title I non-public school agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the 2017-2018 school bus routes and stops, and the temporary closure of all campuses during school sessions from August 29 through the end of the school year, amending the motion to specify Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The board also affirmed consultation with the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

On personnel, the board accepted two resignations, hired several teachers, and approved music, custodial, and dishwasher/server positions. It approved extra pay for extra-duty roles across Allard, Bon Meade, and McCormick elementary schools, along with a large remediation and tutoring program staffing list for the high school, middle schools, and elementary schools. The board approved fall coaches and event workers, rescinded two middle school extra-duty approvals, and named STA drivers. It authorized a staff member to approve safety-related repairs and adjustments. A resident supported the campus closures. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
