Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met September 11, 2017, called to order by the president, with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved the minutes from August 14 and 28, plus the September financial reports, and authorized the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds.

The board entered into an agreement with First National Bank to run the District's Purchasing Card Program, passing on a roll call vote with one director abstaining due to employment there and another director voting in disfavor. It approved the 2016-2017 PIMS accuracy certification, a school affiliation agreement with Carlow University for student teacher placements, and a renewal of actuarial services with Mockenhaupt Benefits Group for GASB 45 compliance. Purchases approved included Dagostino Electronic Services' Alcatel-Lucent 911 notification solution, Cabletechs' NVR replacement at Allard Elementary and Brooks Elementary, and requests for non-resident enrollment exceptions.

The board approved its 2017-2018 Professional Staff Committee, accepted the Moon Area Tennis Club as a booster organization, and approved a co-op hockey team with Our Lady of Sacred Heart, Bishop Canevin, and Southside Beaver. It approved mentors, teachers teaching a sixth class, an Aquatics Director job description, and extensive extra-pay positions across McCormick, Bon Meade, Brooks, Hyde, and the High School, along with fall sports substitutes. Personnel actions included accepting the resignations of two employees and hiring four building assistants and one ADA/Transition Assistant, all pending clearances. The board recommended the settlement of Madura Ranade v. Moon Area School District. The superintendent announced a free US Army Field Band concert on November 2, and the meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
