Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on September 25, 2017, called to order by the president, with nine directors present and the superintendent, two employees, and a solicitor seated at the table. The board approved bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds for the period September 10 to 22, 2017. It approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Moon Education Association adding a Lower House Student Support Coordinator, funded by Ready to Learn Grant money, along with a Confidentiality Agreement and an amendment to the May 8, 2017 transportation agreement with STA of Pennsylvania. The board also approved the 2017-2018 Alternative Education Services Agreement with the Allegheny County Schools Special Education District.

The board approved a revised Digital Flyer Procedure, adopting an amendment by an employee to place revision authority with the superintendent or her designee. It tabled first and final reading of revised Policies 010 and 304.1 on conflict of interest. The superintendent recognized the president and an employee for years of service to the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, and heard presentations on Parkway West Career and Technical School and the new Steam Engines K-4 Coding and Robotics program.

The board accepted the resignations of two employees, approved a medical leave for an employee, and approved numerous extra-duty positions, Safety Care Trainers, tutoring and remediation roles, STA bus drivers, fall event workers, and spring 2018 sports coaches. It approved two special education assistants, both pending clearances. The meeting adjourned at 8:04 pm by voice vote.
