Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on October 23, 2017, at 7:10 p.m. in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present—Hauser, Wolowicz, Scappe, Harper, Zieger, LaRue, and Bussard—with one director absent. A doctor, two other staff members, and the solicitor were seated, and about seven people attended.

The board approved the monthly bills for October 8–20, 2017, split across the General, Activity, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved participation in the Act 1 Homestead/Farmstead mailing, coordinated with Pittsburgh Mailing and the AIU, with costs per eligible address plus a fee per thousand NCOA. The board approved PlanCon Part G project accounting for Brooks Elementary School and Allard Elementary School (Project Nos. 3818 and 3819), the proposed 2018–2019 school calendar, and the first and final reading of revised Policy No. 815 on Internet, computer, and network resource usage, which updates the high school laptop policy. One director voted against it.

The board authorized eighth-grade students to travel to Gettysburg and Hershey Park June 1–2, 2018, approved the middle school clubs list for 2017–18, and approved conferences, including a playground safety inspection in Enola. In personnel, it granted leaves of absence to three employees, accepted the resignation of one employee, and approved volunteers, STA drivers, coaches, event workers, and several facilitators and coordinators, many pending clearances. It also approved a request for an exception to Policy No. 202 on nonresident enrollment. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
