Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met November 13, 2017, called to order by the president, with seven directors present and two absent. After a Superintendent's Report recognizing a fundraiser for Magee Women's Cancer Center and a budget update, the board took a series of unanimous roll call votes.

The board approved the minutes from the October 9 and 23 meetings and a set of financial reports, then approved the bills for the period October 22 to November 10, split across the General, Activity, Food Service, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved the district's Comprehensive Plan per PDE requirements, a new Middle School club for 2017-18, and first-and-final reading of six revised policies covering nondiscrimination, purchasing subject to bid, budgeted purchases, debt management, booster organizations, and federal procurement. Two conferences were approved, along with a broad personnel package: medical and childbearing leaves, an extended leave, several resignations including the retirement of the high school secretary, extra-duty pay approvals across five elementary schools and the high school, club sponsors, wrestling and track coaches, event workers, a large list of student teachers and interns from multiple universities, a salary adjustment for a maintenance employee, a homebound instructor, three STA drivers, and an extended sick leave for a science teacher.

During audience recognition and board comments, an outgoing director marked his final meeting after 12 years, congratulating two incoming members. The president announced the November 27 workshop was cancelled in favor of a December 4 reorganization meeting, at which the two incoming members will be sworn in. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm on a voice vote.
