Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met December 4, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, along with the superintendent, an employee, an employee, and a solicitor, with about 60 in the audience.

The board approved the November 13 minutes and a suite of December financial reports, then approved the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved the 2018-2019 budget timeline and authorized the superintendent and director of fiscal services to release December payments ahead of the January 8, 2018 meeting.

Purchases included a Tri-State Security proposal to replace seven Dell servers with seven Interlogix NVRs, and a Questeq, Inc. E-rate proposal for Category 1 and 2 services for 2018-2019. The board approved a non-resident enrollment exception to Policy 202, a translation-services memorandum of understanding with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit effective February 10, 2018 through February 10, 2019, a high school club for 2017-2018, and field trips for varsity wrestling (Canonsburg, Dec. 29-30), middle school girls gymnastics (Waynesboro, Dec. 30), and varsity gymnastics (St. Mary's, Jan. 12-13). Four staff were approved to attend a Marine Corps Educators Workshop in Parris Island, South Carolina.

Personnel actions approved on a roll call vote included leaves of absence for three employees; resignations accepted from two employees and a wrestling coach; and appointments including an Outdoor Club sponsor, extra-duty positions, student teachers and nurses, a boys rugby coach, a winter event worker, STA drivers, a special education assistant and cafeteria monitors. A supplemental agenda added a dishwasher/server at Brooks Elementary. All motions passed unanimously; the meeting adjourned at 8:11 p.m.
