Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met April 9, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., with five directors present and four absent. The vice president presided.

The board approved the minutes from March 12 and 26, 2018, along with a suite of financial reports, and approved the bills across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service Fund, and Capital Reserve Fund. It appointed a board treasurer for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2018. The board rescinded its September 11, 2017 motion authorizing an agreement with First National Bank for the purchasing card program, and approved a revised Attachment to Policy No. 800 on records retention.

The board accepted a donation to buy library books in memory of a resident, placed in the Middle School Library, and approved additional costs for the Speech and Debate team's trip to Bloomsburg University for the state tournament. It honored a late resident by naming the Moon Stadium playing surface after him, effective September 14, 2018.

The board approved several staff actions, including hiring a general maintenance tradesman, accepting the resignations of the director of facilities and a staff member from two volleyball coaching posts, and approving a range of leaves of absence. It also named the 2018-2019 winter sports coaches and approved payment for a sixth-class section to an employee.

Several programs and trips were approved: a purchase for the Technology Student Association team to attend the national convention in Atlanta, and a package of staff conferences including LUMA Institute training for three high school leadership members. The board tabled a motion to approve PlanCon Project J accounting for Brooks and Allard Elementary Schools pending audit review. The superintendent reports covered summer literacy efforts, redistricting, spending reductions, and the 1:1 initiative expansion. The meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
