Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met April 23, 2018, called to order by the president, with eight directors present and the solicitor seated at the table. After an executive session on personnel and litigation, the board approved the district's bills across five funds, approved a resolution with Weiss Burkhardt Kramer, LLC regarding 2018 residential and commercial assessment appeals, and passed a resolution to amend PIAA classifications to level the competitive arena. The board approved a consulting agreement with Pittsburgh Behavioral Services for 2018-2019, adopted revised Policy No. 719 on drones, and authorized the high school Speech and Debate Team's trip and the Girls' Varsity Soccer Team's trip. It also approved the 2018 Summer Help Program for Facilities.

On personnel, the board accepted the retirement of the middle school librarian, approved an employee's intermittent medical leave, retitled the Coordinator of Transportation and Food Services position, authorized new Transportation Operations Supervisor and Transportation Assistant/Receptionist roles, approved an employee for the receptionist title, granted an employee a monthly cable stipend, and approved a student lifeguard plus numerous 2018-2019 student teacher and intern placements pending clearances. It also approved a van driver. The board hired Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C., to defend the district in an Equal Pay Act lawsuit.

During non-agenda audience recognition, a resident sought permission to host a Cystic Fibrosis walk on campus May 31; the board favored the request, directing him to an employee for promotion and to two employees to check scheduling. The meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm. All motions passed on roll call or voice votes.
