Board of Education Meeting - Special Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a special meeting on May 29, 2018, called to order by the president. All 8 directors were present, with one joining by phone, and the superintendent, a staff member, a staff member, and a solicitor seated at the board table.

The board approved an agreement with CannonDesign for the Hyde Elementary School Vestibule Project, subject to solicitor review. It approved a settlement and mutual release agreement with Reginella Construction Co., and awarded a bid to W.K. Thomas and Associates to repair the kitchen floor at J.H. Brooks Elementary School. The board amended an award letter to list CannonDesign as architect rather than Marotta Main, and awarded W.K. Thomas and Associates for the vestibule project at Richard J. Hyde Elementary School.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period May 13 to May 25, 2018, split across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds. It approved a Title III (ESL) consortium memorandum of understanding with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for 2018-2019 and renewed a school-based probation agreement with the Allegheny County Juvenile Court.

On personnel, the board accepted the retirements of 5 employees, along with the irrevocable resignation of the Director of Fiscal and School Services. It approved an educational sabbatical for an employee, authorized the superintendent to fill a Transportation Assistant/Receptionist and an Administrative Assistant position, approved two separation agreements, and approved an employee as an extended school year speech language pathologist. It also approved a summer help worker and coaches for cheerleading.

Finally, the board approved the Career Shadow and Interview Project for the 2018-19 school year. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. All motions passed on roll call votes.
