Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met June 11, 2018, under the president, with seven directors present and two absent. After an executive session on real estate, personnel, and litigation, the board added three agenda items by voice vote.

The board appointed a designee, ratified an Agreement of Sale with Hutton ST17, LLC for a property, and entered a consulting agreement with DM-MS, LLC for financial services. It approved the minutes and June financial reports, and authorized the monthly bills. The board approved audit services with MaherDuessel, the 2019-2020 school calendar, 2019 meeting dates, the Voluntary Student Accident Plan, a UPMC agreement for the Moon Assistance Program for Students, and a Wesley Family Services mental health agreement at Bon Meade Elementary. It approved a settlement regarding a resident, a dual enrollment memorandum with the Community College of Allegheny County, and first-and-final reading of revised Policy 204 on attendance.

The board approved numerous summer hires, mostly special education para-educators and teachers at Bon Meade and Brooks Elementary, plus summer help and a transportation assistant. Notably, it approved a director of facilities, a PE teacher for the high school, one-time bonuses for two staff on the district safety program, a medical leave for an employee, and accepted the resignation of an employee. Field trips were approved for the choir to Disney World, the marching band to the Phantom Regiment, and the boys varsity basketball team to Indiana University at Bloomington.

Committees reported on graduation requirement changes, ESL magnet programs, insurance rate increases tied to prior litigation, and transportation projects. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
