Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met June 25, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present—the president, and six other directors—with two directors absent. The board first met in executive session over personnel and litigation.

The board approved bills for June 10–22, 2018, split across the General, Activity, Food Service, Capital Projects, and Capital Reserve funds. The board exonerated the Moon Township and Crescent Township tax collectors from collecting unpaid 2017 real estate taxes. The board approved several contracts, including special education services with Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit, a Student Assistance Program agreement with Holy Family Institute, Title I services through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, and a NWEA MAPS assessment software renewal for grades K-4. It also approved agreements with Geneva College and Bethany College to place student teachers in the district.

The board gave first and final reading approval to revised Policies 237 (Electronic Devices) and 824 (Maintaining Professional Adult/Student Boundaries). It approved two high school marching band field trips: band camp at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA, July 29–August 3, and a regional competition in Canton, Ohio, October 13.

In personnel, the board accepted the resignation of an employee as Accounting Supervisor, approved a separation agreement with an employee, and hired an employee as Accountant, retro to June 20. It appointed an employee as business office Administrative Assistant, an employee as Clerk to the Board, and an employee as a summer ESY substitute. It approved summer help workers and independent contractors, including a school physician, a dentist, an orthodontist, an optometrist, a MAPS facilitator, and a prevention specialist. The board appointed an employee as girls soccer head coach and an employee as assistant. The meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
