Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met July 16, 2018, in the High School Board Meeting Room at 7:10 p.m., called to order by the president. Directors present were the president, Hauser, Zieger, Blair, Harper, and Dugan; Wolowicz, Scappe, and Bogatay were absent. The superintendent and a solicitor were seated at the board table.

The board approved the minutes from June 11, 25, and 28, 2018, plus the July financial reports. It approved the July bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. The board approved Change Order #1 for the Hyde Elementary School Vestibule Project for additional bulkheads. It approved a transition consultant services agreement with DJ Morgan Education Consulting Services for 2018-2019, a 2018-2019 Waterfront Learning Services contract with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, and participation in the Kennedy School of Driving End-of-Course Skills Test Program. The board approved a 180-day renewal of the EdInsight Instructional Management System and year three of the Microsoft Licensing Agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. It retired Policies No. 348 (Sexual Harassment) and No. 348.1 (Unlawful Harassment).

The board approved personnel actions including a custodian, a special education personal care assistant at Brooks Elementary, a life skills PACE classroom assistant at Brooks Elementary, a medical leave for two employees, a long-term substitute speech language pathologist, summer ESY para-educators, Kennedy School of Driving instructors, STA bus drivers, and lifeguards. It also tabled the approval of coaches for a special meeting on July 24. The board authorized the superintendent to enter a lease or purchase agreement for technology based on quotes received by July 18. A director raised concerns about returned materials at Bon Meade Elementary and the Moon Area Band not marching in the Memorial Day parade, which the superintendent will follow up on. The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m. All motions passed on roll call or voice votes.
